Q & A and Talk Column
Chris,

Sending you these pictures of my cue that I bought new back in the 1966 or so and  I was told it is a Palmer and would like you to confirm that it is. I still use the cue. If it's a Palmer, what would be the value of the cue?

Thanks for your help,

Richard

Richard,

It's a pretty common mis-identification. Your cue is a very early Adam Cue. It probably pre-dates their first catalog circa 1970, and is the model for the R/A 2 Adam AMX.  Some of the early Adam cues were named after muscle cars, in this case, the hot car made by the now defunct AMC, Amercian Motors Corp.

Adam in Japan was run at the time by David Forman and Richard Helmstetter (who later became the designer of the enormously successful Callaway Big Bertha driver).  Richard brought along designs he had learned from his days as a cue maker in the 1960's.

The pointed pin is the sure sign of an early Adam cue. The early Adam cues are becoming collectible in their own right. Monetarily, your cue may not bring in big bucks, however it is a historic cue  because it is one of Adam's very earliest. Early Adam cues are also developing a collector following because they were hand made at that time.

Should you wish to inquire further about your cue, you may contact Adam at:

all the best,

Chris
