Q & A and Talk Column
Chris,

I acquired a Palmer Cue Model 19 from my Uncle's estate some time ago and wondered if you could tell me anything about it.  It was from your website that I even knew it was a Model 19.  Thanks.  My uncle's name was Joe Wallace.  He was a longtimer in Reno originally from Lowell, MA.

I have enclosed a few pics for you to look at.  My uncle was a pro player out of Reno, Nevada.  Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to acquire his skills at the sport.

I have sighted the cue with both shafts and it is straight and true with both.  As for the case the only marking on it is a small tag inside that says "Fellini 6700 Duquesne Austin, TX"  I would say that is probably the maker from the way the label is sewn into the lining of the case and I think I remember my uncle saying it was leather from Austin.

Any information and value (if I should insure it) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David

David,

Hi - You had a great uncle and yes that's a Palmer Model 19 from the 3rd catalog. It's an ebony and maple cue and there is a picture of one in the 3rd catalog scan on the web site. It's not a commonly seen cue.

Judging by the logo, this Palmer was built in the mid to late 1970's. Palmer imprinted these butt caps on cues that didn't have a window and foil. This imprinted logo was introcduced with the 3rd catalog cues and was used before the decal logo. It looks to me like everything on your cue is original. The Fellini case is also a nice touch.

I just received word from Barry Szamboti that his father, Gus Szamboti, built these eight prong ebony forearms for Palmer. The cue is a very nice collectible. The Szamboti connection adds value and marketibility.

I hope to one day add a Model 19 to my collection.

With your permission, I have put together a web page on your cue. Here it is:

All the best,

Chris
